Among Us is free on the Epic Games Store

Among Us , the multiplayer game that  soared in popularity  during the COVID-19 pandemic, is the latest free title on the Epic Games Store. If you have an account for that storefront,  you can download it for free until June 3rd  (it normally costs $5). You can then join friends in the game’s newer  Airship map , and good news: those friends don’t all need to be playing on PC. The game supports cross-platform multiplayer, so players of the Android, iOS, PC, and Nintendo Switch versions can play together.  The PS4 and PS5 versions  of the game will support crossplay, too, once it launches later this year. Sarahah App Could Secretly Steal Your Entire Contact Book!

Are you also one of those 18 Million users using SARAHAH? You should beware of this app because the anonymous feedback application may not be as private as it really sounds. Sarahah is a newly launched app that has become one of the hottest iPhone and Android apps in the past couple of weeks, allowing its users to sign up to receive anonymised, candid messages from other Sarahah users. However, it turns out that the app silently uploads users' phone contacts to the company's servers for no good reason, spotted by security analyst Zachary Julian. When an Android or iOS user downloads and installs the app for the first time, the app immediately harvests and uploads all phone numbers and email addresses from the user's address book, according to The Intercept. While an app requesting access to the user's phonebook is quite common if the app provides any feature that works with contacts, no such functionality in Sarahah is available right now. "The privacy ...

Google Play sale offers deep discounts on apps, movies and more

A movie rental for a buck might be the only way I can justify watching the new Power Rangers reboot. Luckily, the Google Play store will let me do just that, with substantive discounts on movies, television shows, apps, games, books and music all wrapped up in a massive summer-themed sale. You can rent any one movie from Google's catalog for $0.99, including big new releases like Beauty and the Beast, Logan and Get Out, each typically going for $4.99. Unfortunately, that deal will only extend to the first rental; the discount does not apply to more than one flick. If serial television is more your style, though, Google Play has those for 50 percent off. There are also discounts of up to 80 percent on premium mobile games, too, like Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic, Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombies, Final Fantasy Tactics and Reigns. Apps with subscriptions, like the New York Times, Runtastic, Memrise, NeuroNation or TuneIn are all at 50 percent off for one year, too. Book...

Android Instant Apps starts initial live testing

Android Instant Apps was previewed at Google I/O last year as a new way to run Android apps without requiring installation. Instant Apps is an important part of our effort to help users discover and run apps with minimal friction. We’ve been working with a small number of developers to refine the user and developer experiences. Today, a few of these Instant Apps will be available to Android users for the first time in a limited test, including apps from BuzzFeed, Wish, Periscope, and Viki. By collecting user feedback and iterating on the product, we’ll be able to expand the experience to more apps and more users. To develop an instant app, you’ll need to update your existing Android app to take advantage of Instant Apps functionality and then modularize your app so part of it can be downloaded and run on-the-fly. You’ll use the same Android APIs and Android Studio project. Today, you can also take some important steps to be ready for Instant Apps development. The full SDK will be a...

Nokia launches its first Android smartphone

The first Nokia Android smartphone from the brand's exclusive licensee for mobile devices has finally arrived. Sadly, comes with bad news for folks who want to try it out: It will only be available in China. Finnish company HMD Global, which acquired the rights to release Nokia-branded phones and tablets after Microsoft abandoned the venture, started by releasing dumb phones in 2016. The Nokia 6, however, is a legit LTE smartphone that runs Nougat out of the box. It has a 5.5-inch HD screen, 16MP rear and 8MB front cameras, is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 processor and packs 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. In HMD's announcement, it revealed that it decided to launch Nokia 6 in China, since it's a "strategically important market" with hundreds of millions of users. The company doesn't have an exact release date yet, but it will start selling Nokia 6 early this year for 1,699 Chinese yuan ($246) on JD.com. SOURCE

Google's search-savvy keyboard comes to Android: Gboard replaces the official Google Keyboard app

Ever since Google introduced its Gboard keyboard on iOS, there's been one main question: when is it coming to Android? You can relax. The company has released Gboard for its own phone platform, replacing the previous (and relatively plain) Google Keyboard app. As with iOS, the interface revolves around a search feature that not only digs up common search results (including location and weather), but also emoji and those seemingly inescapable animated GIFs. Gboard will also autocorrect in any enabled language, so you don't have to worry about making typos if you switch between languages on a frequent basis. Gboard is available now, and works with over 100 languages. Don't expect to drop GIFs into conversations regardless of the app, though. GIF sharing only works for Android users in Allo, Hangouts and Messenger right now, and sharing in other apps depends on developers integrating image keyboard support. SOURCE
