iPhone 17 Pro Launching This Year With These 8 New Features

As anticipation builds for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, expected to launch in September 2025, numerous rumors have surfaced detailing potential features and enhancements. Here’s an in-depth look at the eight most discussed updates:

1. Redesigned Frame and Materials

The iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to feature a new frame composition, transitioning from the titanium used in previous iterations to a combination of aluminum and glass. This design is expected to result in a lighter and more durable device, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.

2. Enhanced Camera System

Significant changes are anticipated in the camera department:

Rectangular Camera Bump: The devices may sport a larger rectangular camera bump made of aluminum, differing from the previous square designs.

Lens Arrangement: While some reports suggest a shift to a horizontal or vertical lens alignment, others indicate that the triangular arrangement will persist.

3. A19 Pro Chip

At the heart of the iPhone 17 Pro is expected to be the A19 Pro chip, utilizing TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. This advancement should offer improved performance and energy efficiency, contributing to a smoother user experience.

4. Apple-Designed Wi-Fi Chip

Apple is reportedly developing its own Wi-Fi 7 chip for the iPhone 17 Pro models, aiming to reduce reliance on external suppliers like Broadcom. However, some sources indicate that the chip may support Wi-Fi 6E, similar to the iPhone 16 lineup.

5. Upgraded Front-Facing Camera

A notable enhancement is the upgrade to a 24-megapixel front-facing camera, doubling the resolution of previous models. This improvement is expected to deliver sharper and more detailed selfies and video calls.

6. ProMotion Display Across All Models

There is speculation that ProMotion technology, featuring a 120Hz refresh rate, will be extended to the entire iPhone 17 lineup, including non-Pro models. This would result in smoother visuals and more responsive touch interactions across the board.

7. Introduction of iPhone 17 “Air”

Apple is rumored to introduce a new model, tentatively named the iPhone 17 “Air”, characterized by a thinner design and a different camera layout. This model aims to offer a sleeker alternative within the iPhone 17 series.

8. Discontinuation of the “Plus” Model

Reports suggest that Apple will discontinue the “Plus” model in the iPhone 17 lineup, streamlining the offerings to focus on the standard, Pro, Pro Max, and the new “Air” models.

As the release date approaches, these rumored features paint a picture of a significantly enhanced iPhone experience, blending design innovations with technological advancements. While these details are based on current reports, the official specifications will be confirmed upon Apple’s announcement.

Child-friendly Galaxy Tab 3 Kids listed in Korean brochure

We're no experts in Korean back-to-school literature, but it looks as if one retailer has tipped Samsung's plans a little early. If the documents above are legitimate, then the company will launch a kiddie-focused Galaxy Tab in short order. The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids is said to be an 8.5-inch slate with a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, a 1,024 x 600 WSVGA display, 8GB storage, 1GB RAM and Jelly Bean. The company has also seen fit to include 802.11 a/b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0, a microSD card slot (no word on capacity) and a 4,000mAh battery. One thing that lends weight to the listing is that the device's model number is SM-T2105, which evleaks tersely described as a "Galaxy Tab for children" a month ago. There's more pictures over at the source, but not a single spec saying that this new device is resistant to jam-smeared fingers. Source: ENGADGET

'Cyberathlon' will see disabled athletes compete in powered exoskeleton races

Massive sporting events like the Olympics are becoming increasingly tech-charged, but the games themselves remain unchanged for the most part. A new event called Cybathlon, however, wishes to fully integrate technology into its events, for what's billed as "The Championship for Robot-Assisted Parathletes." Due to be held in Switzerland in 2016, races will feature "pilots" outfitted with powered limb prosthetics, exoskeletons and wheelchairs that can be either commercial products or research prototypes. There will also be a bike race for competitors with muscle stimulation devices, and a fully computerized event pitting brain-controlled avatars against each other on a virtual track. While there'll be medals and glory for some, it's hoped Cybathlon will raise awareness of assistive tech and encourage development in the area. Nothing like a bit of healthy competition to moisten an engineer's brow. SOURCE
